New International Trailer for ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’

The new international trailer for Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’ is out.  This computer-animated motion-capture adaptation is based on one of the most famous comic book series in European history originally penned by Georges Reme (he wrote under the pen name of Herge).  This film is being boosted by a dynamic duo in Director Steven Spielberg and Producer Peter Jackson.  Spielberg has easily had one of the most successful careers of any individual to ever sit in the director’s seat, and ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ will be his first time ever directing an animated movie or a movie based on a comic book.  As adirector, Spielberg’s average score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer is a 78.9%.

Spielberg has been waiting to direct a ‘Tintin’ story now for over 30 years now.  The acclaimed director first came across the ‘Tintin’ comics back in 1981 when someone compared ‘Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark’ to the famous comic book series. Around that time, Herge believed that Spielberg was the only person who could do justice in bringing ‘Tintin’ to the big screen.  Spielberg started working on the film back in the 80’s, when he had Melissa Mathison, the writer of ‘E.T.’, to work on a script for ‘Tintin.’  Roughly 30 years later Spielberg’s dream is eventually coming to life (via IMDB).

Originally, Spielberg intended to bring ‘Tintin’ to the screen as a live-action adaptation, but Producer Peter Jackson convinced him motion-capture was the only way to bring the legendary comic book hero to life.  Jackson is already lined up to direct the second film of the ‘Tintin’ trilogy.

‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’ is based upon four stories published in the 1940’s, ‘The Crab with the Golden Claws’, ‘The Secret of the Unicorn’, ‘The Shooting Star’, & ‘Red Rackham’s Treasure.’

What do you think of the new trailer?  How many of you have read any of the ‘Tintin’ comics? Who is excited about the movie?
