First Trailer of Soderbergh’s ‘Contagion’

‘Contagion’ isn’t just one of the most anticipated movies on the horizon because it boasts an incredible cast of Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, and many more.  There might be even more anticipation behind this film because movie fans know that this is one of Steven Soderbergh’s last times sitting in the director’s seat.  Soderbergh seems too young to be retiring from something that he is brilliant at, but he has said many times that he feels compelled to pursue new challenges.  Movie fans have a right to be disappointed in Soderbergh’s early retirement from directing.  Soderbergh won the Oscar for Best Directing in ‘Traffic’ and also was nominated for Best Director in ‘Erin Brockovich’ and Best Screenplay for ‘Sex, Lies, and Videotape.’  He is also known for his work in the ‘Oceans 11’ saga.  There are many in Hollywood that are upset with Soderbergh’s early departure, with Matt Damon as the poster child of the sad sentiment.  Damon has worked along side of Soderbergh in all three of the ‘Oceans’ movies, as well as ‘The Informant’, ‘Che: Part II’, and has upcoming roles in two of the last five movies that Soderbergh has signed on to direct (‘Contagion’ and ‘Liberace’).

In a directorial role, Soderbergh has averaged a 69.7% in his films via the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

The plot of ‘Contagion’ looks something like this.  A deadly disease threatens to kill the whole world, and the film shows the havoc of its spread through different vantage points.  And according to the trailer, it seems like Soderbergh kills Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie.  Dang.  Soderbergh’s directing with no grace and mercy in his last days.  A trailer with a high body count.  Intense to say the least.

‘Contagion’ will be in theaters on September 9, 2011.
