First Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s ‘Hugo’

‘Hugo’ represents a lot of firsts for legendary director Martin Scorsese. It is the first children’s film of his career. It will be the first time he has done a a 3D movie. Finally, it will also be the first time in 9 years that Leonardo DiCaprio is not featured in a film that he is directing (‘Shutter Island’, ‘The Departed’, ‘The Aviator’).

Martin Scorsese is known to direct movies that are heavy in the intensity and violence departments. Ever heard of ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Goodfellas’, ‘Raging Bull’, or ‘The Departed’? Not exactly ‘Blues Clues’ if you know what I mean. Even though this seems like an unlikely marriage, it’s hard to doubt Scorsese. He is one of the most consistent director’s in Hollywood, and his body of work speaks for itself. Scorsese has been nominated for Best Director 6 times (The Aviator, Gangs of New York, Goodfellas, The Last Temptation of Christ, Raging Bull), and finally took home the honor in 2007 with his work in ‘The Departed.’ He was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Writing in ‘The Age of Innocence’ and ‘Goodfellas.’ In a directorial role his average grade on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer is a 85.4%.

The screenplay also looks to be in good hands with John Logan. He was nominated for an Oscar for his writing in ‘Gladiator’ and ‘The Aviator’. Logan has an average grade of a 58.3% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

‘Hugo’ also features Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Emily Mortimer, Jude Law, Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone and others.

Scorsese’s 1st children’s film will be based on the award winning Children’s novel ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’ by Brian Selznik. The book tells a story of an orphan boy who lives within the walls of a train station in Paris in the 1930’s.

‘Hugo’s’ release date is November 23, 2011.
