Tuesday DVD Forecast: ‘Limitless’ & ‘Take Me Home Tonight’

1) Limitless – Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer: 70%/Metacritic: 59

If you were looking to pick up a newly released DVD tonight, you have two options, and ‘Limitless’ looks like the safe bet between the two. ‘Limitless’ stars Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro and the plot goes a little something like this: This is a story about a writer (Cooper) that discovers a top-secret drug which gives him super human abilities. Everything that he puts his mind or hands to becomes an instant success. A business mogul (De Niro) attempts to take the super enhanced and make billions off of him. Cooper fights to survive as others want a piece of the action, trying to get their hands on some of top-secret drug.

‘Limitless’ was directed by Neil Burger, who also directed ‘The Illusionist’. Burger’s average grade on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer is a 61.8%. Leslie Dixon wrote the screenplay, adapting Alan Glynn’s novel ‘The Dark Fields’ for the big screen. Some of Dixon’s most notable works as a writer include ‘Hairspray’, ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’, ‘Freaky Friday’ and ‘The Thomas Crown Affair.’ Dixon’s average grade on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer is a 55.1%.

2) Take Me Home Tonight – Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer: 28%/Metacritic: 42

I’m not sure that you need to see much more than the trailer to pass judgment. Another unnecessary movie built on the foundation of drunken dirty humor, and it doesn’t even look to pull that off well.

Topher Grace plays the character of a MIT graduate that just wants to protest maturation and takes a part-time job at a video store. His high school sweetheart walks into the store and invites him to an end-of-summer party. Grace and his twin sister (Anna Faris) and his best friend (Dan Fogler) embark on an epic night of mayhem.

Matthew Dowse directs the film and Jackie and Jeff Filgo wrote the screenplay. Dowse previously directed ‘It’s All Gone Pete Tong’ (77%). The Filgo’s previously wrote ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ (53%) and were writers on ‘That ’70’s Show with Grace. Topher Grace also helped write the story.
